Statement | Tammy Honey

Tammy Honey is a Melbourne-based artist working with themes of Pop Culture reflected through contemporary Media advertising. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Tasmania and has exhibited/screened numerous works in Australia and Germany.

The iLandscape series (I-VI) explores the relationship between the jilted desire for pop fame through the guise of an amateur music video clip and further, the re-appropriation of the iPod music video advertisement genre. While these original placements of characters signing away in often tone deaf renditions are themselves a comment on the recent phenomenon of 'I Wanna be a Pop Star' reality TV programs and moreover, the accessorisation and performance license of the iPod in public places, the images reflect a detachment of these characters by placing them out of the private, secluded places of the bedroom, the shower and the living room and into public spaces that, although deserted, are nonetheless dangerous spaces of voyeurism open to fears and anxieties of public ridicule.
