Statement | Kim Collmer

Creating within a culture submerged in the spectacular, I use everyday objects as the subjects of my imaginary landscapes. The blurring of the animate and inanimate, of the virtual and the physical, are keys to my visual language. Combining hi-tech and lo-tech I am addressing the physicality and humanity found within our mechanically natural world.

I attempt to discover the inner element of my materials through the magic of the lens. The methods I use vary-video, the web, photography, or the framework of installation. With these I document and disassemble in ways that create an atmosphere around my materials. Displacing these objects they take on new meanings. Christmas balls become cells, foam becomes clouds.
